Canadian Pacific – a little further along..

Canadian Pacific by Pacific Star

Hi Everyone!

Things are rolling in the studio with the painting of Canadian Pacific, by Pacific Star. Again, using the layered painting technique, similar to Panama K, he is slowly developing a glow and warmth in his colouring. I will leave the reddish bay tones for last.

I can only lay in one colour at a time in each layer, so needless to say, it is a slow process. However, depending which colours I use, the layer is usually dry by the next day. Some pigments dry slower than others. There are a few more paintings in the studio on the go….will post soon…now back to procrastinating on the Le Cadeau du Cheval project..

New Paintings on the way

May 23, 2008

On top of working on the project ‘Le Cadeau Du Cheval’ for Spruce Meadows which you can read about on my studio blog here, I have been working on three new paintings. This one is of Canadian Pacific, one of Travis Hall’s beautiful babies by their handsome Dutch Warmblood stallion Pacific Star STV.

One thing I love about Star, aside from his wonderful temperament and athletic ability, is that he usually seems to throw alot of ‘bling’ in his babies. Canadian Pacific is no exception and he makes for a great subject for a painting.

This painting is in its early stages, posted here is the underpainting and then with the background blocked in.
