Canter Study, 8x10 Oil on Canvas Panel

Hi friends, I am so sorry I have not been posting  regularly of late. For those of you who get my newsletter, you know that I have been busy preparing for two weekends of shows coming up in September. The Headwaters Stable Tour, September 13-14 and The Tournament of Champions the following weekend.  All my new paintings and commissions in progress can be seen in person at these two shows. Hope to see you there!

I have a couple new paintings to post over the next couple days. This one is an oil canter study of Sampson, completed on a toned canvas panel. I quite like its simplicity and decided to leave it that way. It is so easy to overwork a piece!

Sampson is by Sambuca out of Golden Sunrise, bred by Elegant Expressions farm, London, Ontario. Click this Link to learn more about Sambuca!

Fellini Trot Study in Oil

July 21, 2008
Fellini - Trot Study, 8x10 oil on canvas panel

Fellini - Trot Study, 8x10 oil on canvas panel

My next oil study created in a wet-in-wet process is of Fellini. Fellini is a 2006 Hanoverian colt, by Fabuleux out of Malawi by Maurice. Bred by Chris VonGartzen of Northwinds Farm, Erin Ontario. Click on his page to learn more about Fellini.

Fellini is bred for dressage. He has expressive gaits, and while in this image he has a fairly casual trot up front, I wanted the focal point to be on the outside hind leg and the line up towards his stifle. This is his engine, which will make him a great dressage horse one day.
