Panama K – Grisaille
February 21, 2008
Coming from a technical drawing and illustration background, oils are a relatively new media for me. I have always loved the luminosity of old masters paintings, such as those done by Caravaggio. I have been studying those methods, which involve a technique where the image is underpainted in greyscale, or Grisaille. Thin translucent oil colour is then layered over. I completed my greyscale of ‘Blossom’ yesterday. I will be going back into the studio today to begin the colour process.
Don’t forget you can read more about my subject, Blossom on her page, Panama K
